PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Process Development Engineer to support biopharmaceutical process development, digitalisation and Process Analytical Technology initiatives.

The role involves developing scale-down models, digital workflows and advanced monitoring solutions for upstream and downstream bioprocess operations. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver commercial research and internal innovation projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and deliver biopharmaceutical process-development programmes.
  • Design scale-down models for manufacturing unit operations.
  • Develop digital workflows for process monitoring and data acquisition.
  • Apply chemometrics and multivariate data analysis to process data.
  • Lead the development and implementation of PAT technologies.
  • Support upstream and downstream process optimisation.
  • Apply engineering calculations and computational modelling to technical challenges.
  • Use tools such as Python, MATLAB, CFD and Dynochem.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations and project updates.
  • Work to GLP and relevant laboratory safety standards.
  • Collaborate with laboratory, facilities and equipment teams.
  • Mentor and train junior team members where required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • MSc with one to two years of relevant industry experience, or bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience.
  • Experience in process-development engineering or MSAT support.
  • Strong chemical-engineering fundamentals across upstream or downstream bioprocessing.
  • Knowledge of QbD, Design of Experiments and process characterisation.
  • Experience with process scale-up, scale-down and technology transfer.
  • Experience with JMP, Minitab, R, Python or MATLAB.
  • Strong project-management, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE

  • Raman, NIR, FTIR, UV-Vis or other PAT technologies.
  • Chemometric model development and implementation.
  • Mechanistic modelling using gPROMS, Aspen Plus, SIMCA, MATLAB SimBiology or similar platforms.
  • Bioprocess technology transfer from laboratory to manufacturing scale.
  • Knowledge of GMP and FDA, EMA or ICH requirements.
