PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Process Development Engineer to support biopharmaceutical process development, digitalisation and Process Analytical Technology initiatives.
The role involves developing scale-down models, digital workflows and advanced monitoring solutions for upstream and downstream bioprocess operations. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver commercial research and internal innovation projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and deliver biopharmaceutical process-development programmes.
- Design scale-down models for manufacturing unit operations.
- Develop digital workflows for process monitoring and data acquisition.
- Apply chemometrics and multivariate data analysis to process data.
- Lead the development and implementation of PAT technologies.
- Support upstream and downstream process optimisation.
- Apply engineering calculations and computational modelling to technical challenges.
- Use tools such as Python, MATLAB, CFD and Dynochem.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations and project updates.
- Work to GLP and relevant laboratory safety standards.
- Collaborate with laboratory, facilities and equipment teams.
- Mentor and train junior team members where required.
REQUIREMENTS
- MSc with one to two years of relevant industry experience, or bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience.
- Experience in process-development engineering or MSAT support.
- Strong chemical-engineering fundamentals across upstream or downstream bioprocessing.
- Knowledge of QbD, Design of Experiments and process characterisation.
- Experience with process scale-up, scale-down and technology transfer.
- Experience with JMP, Minitab, R, Python or MATLAB.
- Strong project-management, communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
- Raman, NIR, FTIR, UV-Vis or other PAT technologies.
- Chemometric model development and implementation.
- Mechanistic modelling using gPROMS, Aspen Plus, SIMCA, MATLAB SimBiology or similar platforms.
- Bioprocess technology transfer from laboratory to manufacturing scale.
- Knowledge of GMP and FDA, EMA or ICH requirements.
