Microbiology Manager

We are hiring for an exciting position in North West England for a Microbiology Manager to lead their QC Microbiology function. This role plays a critical part in maintaining regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement within a cGMP environment. Managing a team of 15+, you will be promoting technical excellence, accountability, and adaptability while ensuring reliable delivery of microbiological testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and direction to the QC Microbiology team, overseeing workloads, development, and performance.

• Plan and coordinate laboratory schedules, resources, and projects to ensure efficient operations.

• Lead investigations into OOS, OOT, and OOE results, quality events, and change controls, implementing robust root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

• Serve as a technical expert for microbiological methods, supporting regulatory submissions and inspection readiness.

• Ensure validated microbiological methods are maintained and monitored, tracking KPIs to uphold service quality.

• Support audits and inspections while ensuring adherence to GMP and EHS standards.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

• Hands-on experience in a cGMP-regulated microbiology laboratory within pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical settings.

• In-depth understanding of microbiological testing methods, including sterility, EM, endotoxin, and bioburden.

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing and developing laboratory teams.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills in a regulated environment.
